Bikes For Kids - A Corporate Community Initiative by United Way Queensland

Making a difference to the health and safety of young people in our community

Bikes for Kids is a unique corporate team building exercise that gives your team a chance to learn what it means to work together to make a difference in your community. It has significant community benefits encouraging children to live healthier, happier, safer lives by cycling to school. This initiative is supported by the Brisbane City Council’s Active School’s Travel Program which encourages children to walk and/or ride to and from school, as opposed to being driven, increasing physical activity in participating schools by December 2009. United Way Queensland is working in partnership with Brisbane City Council (BCC), Queensland Health and GoldCross Cycles to deliver Bikes For Kids, a program that has the potential to make a difference across Queensland and Australia. This year’s program will deliver 210 bikes, helmets and locks to 20 partner schools in the Brisbane. By 2010 the program will be available in other states.

Bikes For Kids is a facilitated two hour session run by United Way Queensland for between 20 and 100 employees, clients and/or management executives. Divided into teams of 4-6, participants will assemble a bike then present that bike to students from a selected school. Each B4K project will include the presence of a qualified bike technician to assist with assembly and safety check of the bikes. Each event is specifically tailored to meet the expectations and requirements of the corporate partner.
