The Good Guys Local Giving Program

The Good Guys Queensland embarked upon a ripe affair in July when they hosted a fruitful milestone. In conjunction with United Way The Good Guys Local Giving Program nationally has raised over two million dollars for 150 charities around Australia, supporting essential programs, services and projects at a grassroots level.

With the help of United Way Qld, The Good Guys stores in Queensland have raised over $465,000 for more than 40 local community organisations from the Gold Coast through to Cairns. The Good Guys Local Giving Program is aimed at putting some goodness back into the community, through making a tangible difference to the lives of those in need.

Funds have gone towards essential health services, youth programs, cancer support programs, disability services and hospital equipment. Some of the outcomes include sensory gardens, funding for support workers in hospitals, upgrades to youth crisis shelters and mentoring programs for primary school children. During this time, The Good Guys stores in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast raised over $120 000 for Starlight Children’s Foundation which accounts for 25% of the operation costs of the Starlight Express Room at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane. This high tech entertainment centre is a hub of fun for not just the kids receiving treatment, but also for their siblings, who often find themselves spending significant amounts of time at the hospital as well. The room provides a chance to escape from the seriousness of the hospital and spend time being normal kids again. Over the next 12 months, the 21 The Good Guys stores in Queensland will continue to support local projects and services at a local level in partnership with United Way Qld so by shopping at the Good Guys, you can help make change for the better in your local community.
